Department: Human Resources (Human Resources Co-op Student – LEA DC)
Pure Flavor® has been my first co-op experience and my introduction to an office environment. This role has provided me with valuable insights into the business world. I have felt very welcomed by the HR team I work with daily, as well as by everyone I have encountered in the office and warehouse.
Initially, I expected to learn from my colleagues and assist with various tasks. However, I was pleasantly surprised to be included in a wide range of meetings and exposed to numerous situations that can arise in a large produce company. The most valuable aspect of this experience has been observing and understanding how to handle complex and sensitive situations. Watching Nick Vanbeekveld, the HR Business Partner, navigate these challenges has given me a new perspective on HR and its role.
Working on various projects, such as assisting with recruitment, JHSC meetings, toolbox talks, maintaining employee files, managing Health and Safety boards, and planning an upcoming fire drill, has helped clarify my career aspirations. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Pure Flavor® and would like to extend my gratitude to the entire HR team, including Kevin Parent, Beth Mlinaric, Nick Vanbeekveld, Julie Heatherington, and Claire Farquharson.
Thank you for making this experience so enriching and memorable!

Department: Procurement (Procurement Co-op Student)
As a Procurement co-op student at Pure Flavor®, I was excited to start my first day with my team members and fellow co-op students. The office was full of energy, which was a true reflection of the employees’ dedication and commitment. Regarding my work experience, some of my initial tasks were calculating weekly profits and losses and updating pricing sheets for various commodities. This hands-on experience with data management has offered me an amazing opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in my supply chain management courses, such as logistics, procurement, and operations management.
The opportunity to learn from experienced employees and contribute to a company that values sustainable greenhouse growing and quality of their produce is truly rewarding. For instance, reporting quality issues and rejections to Elizabeth Tavares (Sr. Director of Procurement) and Shawn Keizer (Category Analyst) has been a pivotal aspect of my role. This responsibility has taught me the importance of clear communication and attention to detail. Additionally, farm visits with Jeff Baclig (Jr. Grower Liaison) and Charlie Abdul Massih (Sr. Grower Liaison) have provided me with practical knowledge and crucial insights about our growers.
Finally, I look forward to growing personally and professionally, applying all the skills and knowledge I’ve gained working at Pure Flavor®.
