The Pure Flavor® Intern Program aims to offer a transformative experience, empowering young talent to nurture their skills. As a family-operated organization, we prioritize collaboration, innovation, and daily learning from one another. Internships are an excellent avenue for students to acquire real-world experience and explore potential career paths.
In our internship initiative, our goal is to present a variety of industry-specific opportunities to select local students to translate classroom knowledge into practical scenarios. We provide our interns with mentorship and guidance, nurturing their personal and professional development. We actively encourage our interns to take the initiative and contribute their innovative ideas! We aim to provide our interns with a comprehensive skill set and a robust foundation for their future careers by the end of their internship!
We are excited to introduce our exceptionally talented fall interns!
Jasraj Dhaliwal is a student at the University of Windsor, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in supply chain and business analytics and a minor in IT. Jasraj is expected to graduate in December 2024 and is currently working in the logistics department.
“From the moment I stepped into Pure Flavor®‘s logistics department, I was greeted by a whirlwind of activity that seemed both daunting and exciting. My initial thoughts were a mix of eagerness and nervousness as I tried to absorb the complexities of the supply chain. The scale of coordinating the transportation processes was eye-opening.
In the months I have been here, I’ve not only adapted to the fast-paced environment but also discovered a profound appreciation for the beauty of logistics. My interactions with seasoned professionals have been invaluable, and I’ve learned that effective communication is the lifeline of this department. Working closely with my colleagues has allowed me to witness the sometimes seamless, sometimes chaotic coordination required to ensure the timely delivery of Pure Flavor®‘s greenhouse-grown products.
My academic knowledge has proven instrumental in understanding logistics, but the real-world application has added layers of depth to my learning. The ethos of leading a vertically integrated healthy lifestyle with greenhouse-grown fruits and vegetables is not just a tagline but a commitment embedded in every logistical decision made at Pure Flavor®. This internship has not only honed my technical skills but has also instilled in me a passion for contributing to a sustainable and healthy future.”
Mariah Carder is a student at the University of Windsor, pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering, followed by a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering. Mariah is expected to graduate in the summer of 2025 and is currently working in the Engineering department.
“During my time at the University of Windsor, I delved into engineering principles and gained essential skills. The co-op program was a game-changer, letting me explore diverse roles—from the County of Essex’s Infrastructure department to the manufacturing scene at BASF. These experiences bridged the gap between theory and real-world engineering, grounding my academic knowledge.
Joining the Pure Flavor® team has been a great opportunity to integrate my academic knowledge into new practical challenges outside of any other industry I have been part of. I’ve had the chance to undergo transformative learning, both independently and as part of an exceptional team. The Pure Flavor® team has played a significant role in propelling my professional growth beyond theoretical knowledge.
I have actively contributed to the implementation of both lockout/tagout and preventative maintenance programs, along with the rollout of a new online CMMS to enhance efficiency within the Pure Flavor® packhouses. The experiences and lessons learned will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors and I’m confident that the skills acquired during this internship will resonate in my professional journey ahead.”
Chika Maxwell, a student at the University of Windsor, is pursuing a Master‘s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and will be graduating in December 2023. Chika is currently working in the Packaging department.
“As an intern at Pure Flavor®, while pursuing a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Windsor, each day seamlessly intertwines academic insights with practical application. From day one, I was eager to apply my theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, though uncertainty lingered somewhat. However, as the days unfolded, I found myself immersed in a dynamic environment, surrounded by seasoned professionals who were mentors and collaborators in my development process.
From optimizing packaging designs to controlling product quality, I learned to find a balance between theory and practical process improvement. The collaborative atmosphere at Pure Flavor® converts critical thinking into opportunities for growth. Working in this vertically integrated setting provides me with a holistic view of the production process, from cultivation to packaging, enriching my understanding of the industry.
This internship has been a period of substantial growth, where my academic foundation proved invaluable. Reflecting on my experiences, I am excited about contributing to a healthier world through innovative packaging solutions for greenhouse-grown food. My passion for clean energy and sustainability aligns seamlessly with Pure Flavor®‘s commitment to healthy living, inspiring me toward a career harmonizing engineering precision with a focus on sustainable practices and a greener future.”
