When you crunch into a refreshing Mini Cucumber or pop a juicy Cloud 9® Bite-Sized Fruity Tomato, you’re enjoying fresh flavor that can only come from one place: a Pure Flavor® greenhouse. We often take it for granted, but it’s an amazing thing to enjoy high-quality, fresh fruits and vegetables in the winter and it’s all because of the technology inside these fascinating glass houses.
For centuries, farmers have had to compromise with the weather, which meant that many Americans couldn’t enjoy the same quality vegetables in the winter as they did in summer. Today, Pure Flavor® is leading the way forward with state-of-the-art technology so your family can eat delicious conventional and organic produce every day of the year.
Eating Healthy 365 –
We need a daily dose of essential vitamins and minerals to live a healthy lifestyle and keep our bodies functioning properly. The best way to get all those nutrients is to eat fresh fruit and vegetables every day.
Not only does greenhouse growing make it possible to maintain a healthy diet in the winter, but it also means you can enjoy a variety of fresh snacks and recipes year-round.
One of the many benefits of greenhouse growing is that we can make sure your family has many different flavors to choose from in every season. With over 25 unique greenhouse grown products ー including tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and even melons (yes, greenhouse grown melons!) ー Pure Flavor® is making it fun and flavorful to be healthy!
Great Flavor Every Day –
People are now seeking out fresh produce with the Greenhouse Grown logo when they visit their supermarkets. Why? It’s simple: you can make a healthy, sustainable choice while also enjoying the same great flavor every single day of the year.
Inside a greenhouse, the forecast is warm and sunny every single day of the year. That means the fruits and veggies grown inside taste just as great whether it’s July or January.
As growing technology continues to progress, you’ll be able to enjoy more and more of your favorite fresh produce varieties grown inside our greenhouses. Last spring, Pure Flavor® introduced Solara™ Mini Melons, the first personal-sized, sustainable, greenhouse-grown melons. This innovation was only possible inside a greenhouse where it’s paradise 365 days a year.
The Story Behind the Flavor –
A great-tasting veggie is one of life’s simple pleasures, but there’s a complex story behind that great flavor. Every plant starts as a small stem growing in a compostable growing medium. A small water dripper feeds the plant a precise amount of water and nutrients on a specific schedule, ensuring that nothing is wasted. Because of this efficient system, we grow vegetables using 90% less water!
How Things Grow –
These veggie plants don’t take long to grow. In a matter of days, they’ll start climbing up to the sky. By growing vertically, we can grow more veggies with a smaller footprint.
It goes without saying that to grow vegetables in the winter, you need to create an environment that’s nice and warm. We deliver heat directly to the base of every plant by pumping hot water through a network of tubes, an eco-friendly way to make sure no heat is wasted.
Plants also need a lot of sunlight to grow and produce veggies, but, in the winter, the sun is low in the sky and days are much shorter. Pure Flavor® uses artificial LED lighting to illuminate row upon row of vegetables to compensate for this lack of sunlight.
Incredibly, all of this state-of-the-art tech is fully automated and can be adjusted from a cell phone. However, there is one low-tech growing method that remains crucial to growing the best greenhouse fruits and vegetables: pollination.
In order for a plant to produce your favorite fresh ingredients, they bloom beautiful little flowers and these in turn need to be pollinated. Bees are the best pollinators around, so we leave it to their expertise. Walk through a Pure Flavor® greenhouse any day of the year and you’ll see hundreds of bees buzzing around hard at work!
Once a flower is pollinated, it doesn’t take long for it to produce your favorite fruit or veggie. Each is picked at peak ripeness, packed, and shipped quickly to a grocery store near you ー no matter whether it’s spring, summer, fall, or winter.
